New Delhi 10/02/2025// The Indian Steel Association (ISA) expresses deep concern over the U.S. decision to imposetariffs on steel imports, a move that will further disrupt global trade and intensify challenges for the steel industry.The U.S., a major steel importer, has historically imposed strict trade restrictions, with over

30 remedial actions in force against Indian steel—some for more than three decades. Thislatest tariff is expected to slash steel exports to the U.S. by 85%, creating a massive surplusthat will likely flood India—one of the few major markets without trade restrictionspresently.India’s carbon steel exports to the U.S. are already negligible due to longstanding ADD andCVD measures, Yet, this decision will only add to the misery and aggravate the situationfurther. With the U.S. shutting its doors to global steel, the surplus will inevitably beredirected to India, threatening our domestic industry with market distortions, price

नई दिल्ली भारतीय इस्पात संघ (आईएसए) ने इस्पात आयात पर टैरिफ लगाने के अमेरिकी निर्णय पर गहरी चिंता व्यक्त की है, यह कदम वैश्विक व्यापार को और बाधित करेगा तथा इस्पात उद्योग के लिए चुनौतियों को और बढ़ाएगा। अमेरिका, जो एक प्रमुख इस्पात आयातक है, ने ऐतिहासिक रूप से कड़े व्यापार प्रतिबंध लगाए हैं, जिसमें भारतीय इस्पात के विरुद्ध 30 से अधिक उपचारात्मक कार्रवाइयां लागू हैं - जिनमें से कुछ तीन दशकों से भी अधिक समय से हैं। इस नवीनतम टैरिफ से अमेरिका को इस्पात निर्यात में 85% की कमी आने की उम्मीद है, जिससे एक विशाल अधिशेष पैदा होगा जो संभवतः भारत में भर जाएगा - जो वर्तमान में व्यापार प्रतिबंधों के बिना कुछ प्रमुख बाजारों में से एक है। लंबे समय से चले आ रहे ADD और CVD उपायों के कारण भारत का अमेरिका को कार्बन इस्पात निर्यात पहले से ही नगण्य है, फिर भी, यह निर्णय केवल दुख को बढ़ाएगा और स्थिति को और भी खराब करेगा। अमेरिका द्वारा वैश्विक इस्पात के लिए अपने दरवाजे बंद करने के साथ, अधिशेष अनिवार्य रूप से भारत की ओर पुनर्निर्देशित किया जाएगा, जिससे हमारे घरेलू उद्योग को बाजार विकृतियों, मूल्य दुर्घटनाओं और अनुचित प्रतिस्पर्धा का खतरा होगा।
