Vedanta Aluminium's BALCO certified against Aluminium Stewardship Initiative's Performance Standard V3

The iconic aluminium producer is the first Indian company to be awarded this certification

New Delhi, 27th March 2024 ///// :Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, has achieved the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard V3 Certification for the manufacture and supply of a wide range of primary aluminium products at its facility in Korba, Chhattisgarh. This includes a smelter with two potlines for producing molten aluminium (hot metal), three casthouses for shaping the aluminium, a rolled product plant and a power generation plant. Together, they contribute to an annual production capacity of 575,000 tonnesat BALCO.

BALCOproduces aluminium wire rods, ingots, primary foundry alloys and rolled products, as well as India’s first low carbon aluminium range Restora. They find applications in several sectors including automobiles, infrastructure, insulations, power projects, electrical and packaging. It has emerged as the first Indian company to achieve the ASI Performance Standard V3 Certification. Previously, Vedanta Aluminium has also achieved the ASI Performance Standard V2 Certification for its smelter and captive power plant located within the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Jharsuguda, Odisha, India.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the global aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) was launched in May 2022 following a multi-year revision process. It defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars - Environment, Social, and Governance - with the aim to address sustainability areas in the aluminium value chain, such as biodiversity, indigenous peoples’ rights, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audit of Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) was carried out by CETIZION Verifica.

वेदांता बालको ने हासिल किया एएसआई का परफॉरमेंस स्टैंडर्ड वी3 सर्टिफिकेट

भारत की आइकॉनिक एल्युमिनियम उत्पादक बालको यह सर्टिफिकेट पाने वाली देश की पहली कंपनी है

नई दिल्ली, 27 मार्च 2024  ///  वेदांता एल्युमिनियम की इकाई भारत एल्युमिनियम कंपनी लिमिटेड (बालको) ने कोरबा, छत्तीसगढ़ स्थित अपने संयंत्र में प्राथमिक एल्युमिनियम उत्पादों के मैन्युफैक्चरिंग एंड सप्लाई के लिए एल्युमिनियम स्टूवर्डशिप इनिशिएटिव (एएसआई) का परफॉरमेंस स्टैंडर्ड वी3 सर्टिफिकेशन हासिल किया है। बालको संयंत्र में मॉल्टन एल्युमिनियम (गर्म धातु) उत्पादन हेतु स्मेल्टर के दो पॉटलाइंस तथा एल्युमिनियम को आकार देने के लिए तीन कास्टहाउस और रोल्ड प्रोडक्ट एवं पावर जेनरेशन प्लांट शामिल हैं। ये सब मिलकर बालको की सालाना 5,75,000 टन एल्युमिनियम उत्पादन क्षमता को मुमकिन बनाते हैं।

बालको में एल्युमिनियम वायर रॉड, इंगॉट, प्राइमरी फाउंड्री अलॉय और रोल्ड प्रोडक्ट के साथ ही भारत की पहली ’लो कार्बन’ एल्युमिनियम रेंज रिस्टोरा का उत्पादन होता है। इन उत्पादों का इस्तेमाल ऑटोमोबाइल, इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर, इंसुलेशन, विद्युत परियोजनाओं तथा बिजली का सामान और पैकेजिंग जैसे विभिन्न उद्योगों में होता है। एएसआई का परफॉरमेंस स्टैंडर्ड वी3 सर्टिफिकेट प्राप्त करने वाली बालको पहली भारतीय कंपनी बन गई है। इससे पहले वेदांता एल्युमिनियम झारसुगुडा, ओडिशा स्थित विशेष आर्थिक क्षेत्र के भीतर स्थित अपने स्मेल्टर व कैप्टिव पावर प्लांट के लिए एएसआई परफॉरमेंस स्टैंडर्ड वी2 सर्टिफिकेट हासिल कर चुकी है।

एएसआई सर्टिफिकेशन कार्यक्रम को विभिन्न पहलुओं की गहन परामर्श प्रक्रिया के जरिए विकसित किया गया है तथा वैश्विक एल्युमिनियम मूल्य श्रृंखला के लिए यह एकमात्र व्यापक स्वैच्छिक सस्टेनेबिलिटी मानक पहल है। एएसआई परफॉरमेंस स्टैंडर्ड वी3 (2022) को एक से ज्यादा वर्षों की संशोधन प्रक्रिया के पश्चात् मई 2022 में लांच किया गया। पर्यावरण, सामाजिक एवं गवर्नेंस (ईएसजी) इन तीन स्तंभों के तहत यह 11 सिद्धांतों एवं 62 कसौटियों को परिभाषित करता है। इसका लक्ष्य है एल्युमिनियम मूल्य श्रृंखला में सस्टेनेबिलिटी संबंधी लक्ष्यों को हासिल करना जैसे जैव विविधता, मूलनिवासियों के अधिकार, सर्कुलेरिटी व ग्रीन हाउस गैसों का उत्सर्जन। भारत एल्युमिनियम कंपनी लिमिटेड (बालको) का स्वतंत्र थर्ड पार्टी ऑडिट सेटिज़ियोन वेरिफिका द्वारा किया गया।

वेदांता एल्युमिनियम के सीईओ श्री जॉन स्लेवन ने कहा कि एएसआई परफॉरमेंस स्टैंडर्ड वी3 सर्टिफिकेशन प्राप्त कर एएसआई के सदस्यता होने पर हम बालको का स्वागत करते हैं। इस सर्टिफिकेशन में हमारे ’लो कार्बन ग्रीन’ एल्युमिनियम रिस्टोरा और रिस्टोरा अल्ट्रा ब्रांड का उत्पादन शामिल है। भारत की आइकॉनिक एल्युमिनियम उत्पादक के तौर पर बालको एल्युमिनियम वैल्यू चैन के प्रत्येक कदम में सस्टेनेबल प्रक्रियाओं के अमल में अग्रणी रही है और वैश्विक उद्योग में स्वयं को एक बेंचमार्क के रूप में स्थापित किया है। यह सर्टिफिकेशन दायित्वपूर्ण उत्पादन विधियों के लिए हमारी निरंतर प्रतिबद्धता को प्रदर्शित करता है। इससे हमारी टीम को एक सस्टेनेबल दुनिया के निर्माण हेतु एल्युमिनियम की असीम संभावनाओं का उपयोग करने के और नए तरीके तलाशने की प्रेरणा मिलेगी।

बालको वेदांता एल्युमिनियम की ईकाई है। वेदांता ने 2050 तक नैट ज़ीरो हासिल करने के लिए बहुआयामी दृष्टिकोण को अपनाया है। इसके लिए कंपनी ने उत्सर्जन घटाने की स्पष्ट समय सीमा तय की है, कार्बन कटौती की अत्याधुनिक तकनीक तैनात की हैं, नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा स्त्रोतों का उपयोग बढ़ाया है तथा स्थानीय समुदायों के बीच जाकर जलवायु परिवर्तन का मुकाबला करने के लिए जमीनी स्तर पर सहयोग किया जा रहा है। पारिस्थितिक जरूरतों और कारोबारी आवश्यकताओं के बीच संतुलन कायम करते हुए कंपनी ने वित्तीय वर्ष 2012 से वित्तीय वर्ष 2023 तक ग्रीन हाउस गैसों की प्रचंडता में 28 प्रतिशत की प्रभावशाली कटौती करने में कामयाबी पाई है; साथ ही इस दौरान उत्पादन में तीन गुना इजाफा भी दर्ज किया गया है।

वेदांता लिमिटेड की इकाई वेदांता एल्युमिनियम भारत की सबसे बड़ी एल्युमिनियम उत्पादक है। वित्तीय वर्ष 23 में 22.9 लाख टन उत्पादन के साथ कंपनी ने भारत के कुल एल्युमिनियम का आधे से ज्यादा हिस्सा उत्पादित किया। यह मूल्य संवर्धित एल्युमिनियम उत्पादों के मामले में अग्रणी है जिनका उपयोग कई अहम उद्योगों में किया जाता है। वेदांता एल्युमिनियम को एल्युमिनियम उद्योग में एस एंड पी ग्लोबल कॉर्पोरेट सस्टेनेबिलिटी असैसमेंट 2023 में पहली वैश्विक रैंकिंग मिली है, यह उपलब्धि कंपनी की सस्टेनेबल विकास प्रक्रियाओं को प्रतिबिम्बित करती है। भारत में अपने विश्वस्तरीय एल्युमिनियम स्मेल्टर्स और एल्यूमिना रिफाइनरी के साथ कंपनी हरित भविष्य के लिए विभिन्न कार्यों में एल्युमिनियम के प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने और इसे ’भविष्य की धातु’ के रूप में पेश करने के अपने मिशन में लगातार आगे बढ़ रही है।
