UNICEF media awards for child-related issues and achievements in Chhattisgarh

UNICEF launches‘Hamar Laikaman: Media 4 Children’ awards for Chhattisgarh journalists for contribution to Child Rights.

October 16, 2021, Raipur  ://////  UNICEF along with CMSR Foundation launchesmedia awards for journalists, reporters, stringers, and photo-journalists in Chhattisgarh for exceptional reporting on issues related to women and children. The prestigious awards will be in four categories - print, television and radio, digital news platforms, and photo-journalism. The awards will be named ‘Hamar Laikaman Media4Children’

Job Zachariah, Chief of UNICEF Chhattisgarh said that theseawards are first of its kind in the state. “The awards will encouragethe media to highlight on children’s issues, success stories and innovations.It will help to bring childrenat the centre of development discourse and create more awareness on child rights in family and society” Zachariah said.

In the context of the COVID19 pandemic, the awards will encourage media to highlight the indirect impact of COVID on health, education, nutrition, sanitation, and protection of women and children.This includes the learning loss of students due to school closure, increased vulnerability to abuse and exploitation, hampered access to essential services and loss in development gains .   ‘Hamar Laikaman’ Awards 2021 aim to strengthen the role of mediatoreport and prevent further losses.

Syam Sudheer Bandi, Communication Specialist said that UNICEF has strong evidence to show that media has contributed exceptionally to the wellbeing of children in the state. “ Media Collective for Child Rights (MCCR), a collective of more than 600 media persons, has not only raised awareness on child rights but also strengthened the policy advocacy for children with policy makers, implementors and influencers resulting in concrete actions. ‘Hamar Laikaman’ awards are a token of appreciation for media’s relentless support to child rights discourse in the state, he added.

The entries received will be judged by a 5-member Jury, consisting of eminent personalities form the field of media, government, and civil society. Winners will be presented with a citation and a cash honorarium. Entries can be submitted online through www.cmsrfoundation.org and last date to send entries is 10
